Kroger Raises $93,311 for the American Heart Association

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular disease and stroke, thanks Kroger Stores for their support of Life is Why We Give. After a successful campaign in its 122 stores across the Mid-Atlantic, Kroger raised $93,311 for the American Heart Association.

“The American Heart Association is committed to fighting heart disease and stroke and improving the quality of life for all Americans,” said Abby Bartley, Vice-President of Development Operations for the American Heart Association.  “Our work would not be possible without the generous support of committed companies like Kroger, and the impact it generates is multiplied when corporate citizens join us in building healthier communities and lives.

The campaign took place in February in support of American Heart Month. Kroger associates invited customers to make a gift to honor a loved one affected by heart disease or stroke.  Paper heart tributes were on display throughout Kroger stores. Customers were also incentivized with discounts on healthy foods like bagged salads.

“For years, Kroger customers and associates have teamed up to help the American Heart Association fight heart disease and stroke,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division. “From our February fundraising campaign, customers donated more than $93,000 to the American Heart Association. We’re grateful for their generosity.”

Kroger associate, Debbie Spivey was excited by the opportunity to support the American Heart Association. “I’m selling hearts in memory of my Dad, Mom and baby brother. And my sister has had 2 strokes,” she said.
