American Heart Association Announces 2024 Go Red for Women co-chairs for Southern New England Campaign

Providence, Rhode Island, September 18th, 2023– The American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, today announced its co-chairs for the 20th anniversary of the Southern New England Go Red for Women® movement. Shiela Companie, Senior Vice President & General Manager at Amica Life Insurance Company, and Jessica Eldridge, Senior Vice President – Forensic Accounting Insurance Services at J.S. Held LLC, will spearhead the luncheon geared toward celebrating the movement’s 20th anniversary.
Go Red for Women is an initiative of the American Heart Association designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally and globally.
“I am honored to serve as a Chair for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement in Southern New England for 2023-2024,” shared Companie. “I am proud of the Association’s work to give hope, healing and more time with loved ones while protecting those hearts that are more vulnerable than ever before.”
As the volunteer co-chairs, Companie and Eldridge will drive the efforts to raise vital funding for lifesaving research and empower Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts women to take control of their health. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined.
“As a mother of two girls who also has a family history of heart disease, it is important for me to be a voice and raise awareness and funding to promote better health care for women,” stated Eldridge. “The Go Red for Women campaign is responsible for educating millions of women, allowing access to programs and services for health equity, as well as investing hundreds of millions of dollars in research for heart health. I am honored and privileged to represent the American Heart Association as the 2024 Co-Chair for Go Red for Women.”
CVD continues to be a woman’s greatest health threat, taking the life of one in every three women. Women experience unique life stages that increase their risk of developing CVD over the course of their lifetime, and Black and Hispanic women are disproportionately impacted.
“I strongly believe in educating others, that knowledge is power and that simple lifestyle changes can lead to improved overall health,” said Companie. “As we gear up for this year’s campaign, I am reaching out for your support in this important cause.”
The campaign culminates at the 2024 Go Red for Women Luncheon, held on Feb. 9, 2024, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The program draws from the American Heart Association’s strong legacy of science and education, raising vital funds toward the research of women’s heart and brain health. The celebration is expected to draw more than 600 supporters and feature activities aimed at inspiring women to act for their own health and their loved ones.
“As the American Heart Association enters its second century, we are thrilled to have Shiela and Jessica’s experience, conviction and passion drive the Go Red for Women movement locally,” shared Frank Maher, Development Director for the Go Red for Women movement in Southern New England. “Working together, we are transforming the way the world understands, treats and prevents cardiovascular diseases and stroke in women.”
For nearly a century, the American Heart Association fuels funding for lifesaving research and boldly stands for the rights of patients and caregivers, to empower healthier communities and transcend the way we live, work and play.

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 18 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
