Viewers across Greater Boston got a front-row seat to a lifesaving lesson on CityLine on WCVB Channel 5 this Sunday.
American Heart Association volunteer and cardiologist Dr. Kemar Brown joined host Jessica Brown for an on-air CPR demonstration, showing just how simple — and powerful — quick action can be in an emergency.
Kneeling beside a CPR manikin, Dr. Brown walked viewers through Hands-Only CPR, explaining where to place your hands, how hard to press and how fast to deliver compressions to keep blood flowing until help arrives. Watch the full segment below
Beyond the demonstration, Dr. Brown highlighted the American Heart Association’s efforts to educate more people in CPR across Massachusetts through community trainings, school programs and public awareness initiatives.
He also discussed the Association’s advocacy work to expand CPR education in schools, including efforts to pass legislation that would make CPR training a high school graduation requirement in Massachusetts. Currently, Massachusetts is one of only nine states without this requirement, leaving many students without a critical lifesaving skill.
