The American Heart Association and Webster Central School District celebrate four new walking paths

ROCHESTER, June 11, 2018 – -The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in partnership with the Webster Central School District (WCSD) is proud to announce four new walking paths at Spry Middle School, Webster Thomas High School, Webster Schroeder High School and Willink Middle School. A walking path kick-off ceremony will take place on Monday, June 11, 4:00 p.m., at Spry Middle School’s main entrance (near the flag pole), 119 South Avenue, Webster, NY, 14580. In case of rain, the event will be held in the library (first floor, Spry Middle School). WCSD’s walking paths are an easy way everyone can get started on a regular walking program that will achieve personal physical activity goals and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Walkers can choose from three Spry Middle School paths, including: 1/3 Mile (660 steps), 1/2 mile (1,000 steps) and 1-mile loops (2,000 steps). All walking path maps can be found on WCSD’s website, www.websterschools.org, by clicking on the Department’s  tab, then the Athletics tab. WCSD community members are encouraged to enjoy the new walking paths outside of regular secondary school hours which are ~7:25 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.

Guests will hear from Carmen Gumina, superintendent of schools for WCSD; Chris Kennedy, American Heart Association board member & vice president Next Level Burger; and Spring Sanchez, mother of a top fundraising family from Plank Road South. WCSD’s top elementary school student fundraisers for the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart fundraisers are also invited to the kick-off, including: Dustin General and Jack Freeman from Schlegel Road Elementary School, Claire Terry from State Road Elementary School, Dylan Rinker from Klem Road North Elementary School, Cooper Hebert from Klem Road South Elementary School, Devi Israni from DeWitt Road Elementary School, James Niles from Plank Road North Elementary School, Bryce Sanchez and Autumn Sanchez from Plank Road South Elementary School.

The American Heart Association wants everyone to be heart healthy by taking simple steps like improving nutrition, quitting smoking, knowing your numbers (cholesterol and blood pressure), and being physically active for at least 30 minutes a day.

“We are excited to have WCSD embrace walking paths in our One Webster community,” said Carmen Gumina, WCSD superintendent of schools. “It adds another dimension for our faculty, staff, and all residents to enjoy and a free, easy way to embrace being physically active.”
