The 36th American Heart Association Greater Washington Region Golf Tournament “teed off” on Nov. 1 at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD, to celebrate the AHA’s mission through movement and fellowship on the golf course.
The tournament featured 18-holes of golf, a longest drive competition, special guest speakers and an award reception. With 36 Teams and 136 participants, the event raised more than $183,000 to support lifesaving research and groundbreaking advancements in cardiovascular care.
The morning kicked off with breakfast, warmups on the green and opening remarks from Golf Tournament Chair Rich Sawchak.
Following introductions, Greater Washington Region Board member, Dr. Bryan O. Buckley DRPH, MPH shared his story of saving a life with CPR while biking with a friend on Three Notch Trail in Maryland. With over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occurring each year, bystander CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival, and donations made at events like the Golf Tournament ensure the AHA can train over 23 million people in CPR yearly.
Opening remarks ended with a special appearance by the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, Mr. Daniel Mulhall before teams departed for an exciting morning of golf on the north and south courses.
Ending the day with a reception, we recognized the following teams and individuals for their tremendous support and skills on the golf course!
