Pediatric cardiologist promotes heart health, leads 2022 Heart Walk

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on ensuring longer, healthier lives for all, has named Dr. Ruchi Gupta, a pediatric cardiologist in the Cardiac Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, as the chair of the 2022 Lehigh Valley and Berks Heart Walk. In this role, Gupta will help raise funds to support the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association

“Heart disease is our No. 1 health threat, and the Heart Walk is a great way to promote the wellbeing of our community and support the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association,” said Gupta. “The past several years have shown us that no matter where we are, we can come together for a common cause.”

Dr. Ruchi Gupta is a pediatric cardiologist who has been practicing in the Lehigh Valley for the last 12 years. In addition to her professional field of diagnosing congenital and acquired heart disease in patients from fetal life to the age of 18, she also enjoys teaching pediatric residents and students of all ages. Dr. Gupta is a strong advocate for healthy lifestyles, preventative medicine and for teaching CPR in the community, and in her free time, she enjoys tennis and biking.

The Heart Walk returns to Grange Park in Macungie on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022. Participants are invited for a three-mile walk to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity. To register, visit www.heart.org/lehighvalleywalk.

The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is designed to help individuals and companies positively impact employee overall health and wellbeing. The campaign is anchored by an event that inspires employees to be more engaged, reconnect with colleagues, get in their physical activity, support a great cause and have a lot of fun.

The funds raised for Heart Walk fund the mission of the American Heart Association to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives while supporting priority issues in Lehigh Valley and Berks County. Blood pressure, tobacco and vaping, and reducing women’s heart health risk have been identified by the American Heart Association Lehigh Valley board of directors to propel work to support the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality.

On the Heart Walk website, www.heart.org/lehighvalleywalk, participants can stay up to date by downloading the Heart Walk mobile app and encourage friends and family to join the event via e-mail or on social media.
