The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association is pleased to announce that Patrick L. Muldoon, FACHE, President of UMass Memorial Medical Center, will serve as chair of the 2016 Central MA Heart Walk. The annual event will be held on Saturday, May 7th, at the DCR’s Quinsigamond State Park, Lake Park in Worcester.
As chair of the event, Muldoon will manage a volunteer executive leadership team charged with recruiting businesses, community groups and individual walkers while helping to raise over $200,000 to support the American Heart Association in its mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The Heart Walk brings together more than 1,500 people and raises critical funds for life-saving heart and stroke research and education.
“I think it’s safe to say that most of us know someone with heart disease. One of every three deaths in the U.S. in 2013 was from heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. The Heart Walk is an important venue to raise funds needed for care, research and education. I encourage you to form a team or make a donation to honor a friend or loved one,” said Muldoon.
Prior to joining UMass Memorial Medical Center in 2013, Muldoon served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthAlliance Hospitals, Inc. and Central New England HealthAlliance, Inc., serving the residents of North Central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Muldoon earned his undergraduate degree in Health Services Administration from Providence College and his Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago.
The Central MA Heart Walk will be held rain or shine on Saturday, May 7th, at the DCR’s Quinsigamond State Park, Lake Park in Worcester. Registration begins at 8:30am and the walk kicks-off at 9:30am, with all survivors invited to the stage for the Red Cap wave. The Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway Restaurants and locally sponsored by UMass Memorial Health Care, Saint Vincent Hospital, Bay State Savings Bank, Fallon Health, Milford Regional Medical Center, MedStar Ambulance, Reliant Medical Group, Coughlin Electric Contractors and FLEXcon. Media sponsors include WXLO Radio and Charter TV3.

Our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
