Walk For Your Heart – June 4th Heart & Stroke Walk

Annual Heart and Stroke Walk steps off Saturday

The American Heart Association’s New Hampshire Heart and Stroke Walk will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Derryfield Park in Manchester. More than 1,000 walkers are expected to attend the Heart and Stroke Walk, led by event chair Bob Croak CPA at Baker Newman Noyes.
“I do this for my grandmother who passed away from congenital heart disease,” said Croak.  “She was a second mother for me.  It’s important to educate people on how to be heart healthy, so many deaths can be avoided.”
Heart disease and stroke remain the leading health threats to all Americans. This is what inspires families, friends and co-workers from all over New Hampshire to form Heart Walk teams. Many will walk in honor or in memory of loved ones affected by heart disease, stroke and congenital heart defects.
The non-competitive, 1 or 3-mile walk, is co-hosted by Erin Fehlau of WMUR and Jay Coffee of 96.5 The Mill and will include free health screenings, free Hands-Only CPR training provided by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, a kids’ zone, and free Subway lunch.
The inaugural Hospital Cup will also be awarded at the event to one of three participating hospitals which include Elliot Health System, Catholic Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock. The Hospital Cup is a challenge among hospitals and healthcare professionals to raise awareness and lifesaving dollars in support of heart disease and stroke. The hospitals combined have currently raised $29,126 and recruited 301 walkers.
The American Heart Association uses the funds raised through the Heart Walk to finance cutting-edge scientific research, conduct public and professional educational programs and advocate for public health.
The Heart Walk’s national sponsor is Subway, presenting sponsor is Elliot Health System and local sponsors include, Hannaford Supermarkets, Merrimack Mortgage Company, Catholic Medical Center, HarborOne Bank, Brookstone, Baker Newman Noyes, Elm Grove Companies, 96.5 The Mill and WMUR.
