American Heart Association, PNC Bank donates CPR training kits to Harrisburg High School

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, and PNC Bank recently donated CPR in Schools training kits to Harrisburg High School. Students at the John Harris Campus, along with Assistant Superintendent Dr. Marisol Craig and John Harris Campus Principal Michelle Felton, met with representatives of the American Heart Association and PNC Bank to learn about the training kits and demonstrate their skills.

The donation of the CPR in Schools Training Kits to Harrisburg High School was made possible by PNC Bank, a sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Capital Region Heart Ball. The American Heart Association has donated CPR in Schools kits to more than 12 school districts across Central Pennsylvania with the help of sponsors like PNC Bank and other Heart Ball supporters.

“Recognizing the critical role education plays in a young person’s life, PNC has a long-standing commitment to supporting schools in our communities,” said Jim Hoehn, PNC regional president in Central Pennsylvania. “We are grateful to work with the American Heart Association to help ensure Harrisburg students have the tools to learn this important, life-saving skill.”

Only about 45 percent of people who experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest receive the immediate help they need before professional help arrives. CPR, especially if performed immediately, could double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. In 2019, the American Heart Association advocated for passage of legislation that ensures all Pennsylvania high school students are trained in Hands-Only CPR.

Developed by the American Heart Association, the portable training kits contain inflatable manikins, AED training simulators, kneel mats, instructional DVDs, facilitator guides and cleaning materials. They are designed to help educators facilitate CPR training in a single class period and to be reused to train an entire school.
