The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) is pleased to announce a new chairman and the largest sponsorship ever for the 2017 Southern Tier Heart Walk.

Tim Strong, Business Development Manager at Visions Federal Credit Union, will serve as the chairman of the 2017 Southern Tier Heart Walk. Strong will lead the fundraising efforts for the Heart Walk in the Southern Tier to help achieve the AHA/ASA’s 2020 impact goal: to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20%.

“I am taking on this role to help raise funds and awareness for a huge issue in our community,” says Strong. “It is my hope that through this event, we can help many more in our community live happy, healthy lives and help keep families from losing anyone ‘too soon.’”

As Business Development Manager, Strong oversees the Business Partner program, Financial Literacy initiatives, community involvement, and sponsorship opportunities for Visions Federal Credit Union. Strong also volunteers with the Greater Binghamton Education Outreach Program, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Emerging Leaders Society of Broome County, and the Southern Tier Chapter of the Credit Union Association of NY.

In addition to Strong’s commitment as chairman, Visions Federal Credit Union has signed on as the first-ever platform sponsor for the Southern Tier Heart Walk. The platform sponsorship level is the highest level available locally.

“Visions sees the important role the American Heart Association plays in the community and has continually taken advantage of many activities and services AHA/ASA has to offer,” says Strong. “Wellness is an initiative Visions takes to heart, and what better way than through supporting the American Heart Association!”

Money raised at events like the Southern Tier Heart Walk goes towards lifesaving research, advocacy, and education programs. The AHA/ASA is in every school, grocery store, hospital, and cardiologist’s office in the Southern Tier with programs, advocacy efforts, and medical breakthroughs.

The 2017 Southern Tier Heart Walk will be held on Sunday, April 9th at the SUNY Broome Ice Center. The 2016 event raised $242,000 with help from more than 2,000 walkers. Stay up to date on Heart Walk information with #BingHeartWalk.
