A local leader with a love for heart health

Amy Carrier, President, Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System to serve as
2021 Heart Challenge Chair

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, hosts Heart Challenge, a suite of activities and initiatives that include the Heart Walk, CycleNation, and Field Day events in the Hampton Roads.

Amy Carrier, Market President for Bon Secours Hampton Roads, will take on the role of the 2021 Hampton Roads Heart Challenge Chair. Heart Challenge serves to connect survivors, employees, volunteers and more within our communities by encouraging physical activity, all while raising critical funds for lifesaving science and community impact.

As chair of the Heart Challenge events, she will lead, encourage and oversee broad, elevated conversation about employee health, corporate engagement, community health and community transformation. She will also be the first to help Hampton Roads launch and host a digital CycleNation event.

“I’m proud to lead the Heart Challenge in Hampton Roads. I hope to bring greater awareness to the devastating effects of cardiovascular disease and contribute to positive changes that will help my community live longer, healthier lives,” said Carrier. “As a healthcare leader – and family member of heart attack and stroke survivors – the mission of the AHA is one that I feel passionate about and connected to both personally and professionally.” Throughout her career, Carrier has partnered with the American Heart Association to promote awareness and create positive change in the health of her community.

Carrier joined Bon Secours as the Chief Operating Officer of Bon Secours Virginia in April 2018 and in October 2018 was appointed Market President for Bon Secours Hampton Roads. Earlier in her career, she held several roles including System Senior Vice-President and Hospital President with Wellstar Health System in Georgia, Vice President of Service Lines, Business Development and Strategy with Adventist HealthCare in Maryland, Executive Director of cardiovascular, critical care and pulmonary services, employee and community health with Conemaugh Health System in Pennsylvania and Senior Director with Inova Health System in Northern Virginia.

Heart Challenge, locally sponsored by Bon Secours Hampton Roads, kicks off with CycleNation on Saturday, June 12, 2021, followed by Heart Walk on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Chesapeake City Park and Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Hampton University. Participants can expect a one-of-a-kind experience tailored to bring communities together by moving and participating in physical activity while raising funds for innovative research that leads to new treatments and cures.

Starting a journey to be more active can boost one’s personal health and well-being, and inspire others to do the same, according to the AHA. With a mission to bring communities to health and wholeness, Bon Secours Hampton Roads has been a supporter of the Heart Walk for over 10 years. They have chosen to continue making an investment in the community by participating as a Platform Sponsor for the American Heart Association Hampton Roads Heart Challenge.
