American Heart Association Hampton Roads announces new leadership to executive board of directors

 

Corporate Executives and Medical Leaders elevate their roles on the Hampton Roads Executive Board.

The American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, named four familiar individuals to the Hampton Roads Executive Board of Directors for Fiscal Year 2022-2023.

Scott Kern, Vice President Business Process & Projects, Dollar Tree, is the incoming Board Chair. Kern has previously served on the Heart Challenge Executive Leadership Team as well as on the Board of Directors. Kern is a cardiac arrest survivor and shares his story with others, as he continues to advocate for CPR and AED awareness.

Dr. Thomas Klevan, Cardiologist, Medical Director, Optima Health, remains the Board President. Dr. Klevan is a member of the American Heart Association Cor Vitae Society and his leadership will continue as he also contributes his knowledge to the growth of the Hampton Roads Young Professionals Board.

Dr. Ethlyn McQueen-Gibson, Associate Professor, Hampton University School of Nursing and Director, Center for Gerontology Excellence makes the transition from Board Chair to Leadership Development Chair. Dr. Gibson’s heavy involvement in the community continues to be a catalyst and example for her colleagues as well as students, regarding the prevention and education of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Dr. Dena Krishnan, Director of Cardiac Rehab and Cardio-Oncology, Bon Secours, is elevating her role within the Board, and serves as the Board President-Elect. Dr. Krishnan’s experience with the American Heart Association spans nationwide, and she often serves as the voice and spokesperson for the Hampton Roads market on women’s heart health.

“I’m so thankful for our incoming and outgoing board members and leaders,” says MeShall Hills, Executive Director for the American Heart Association Hampton Roads. “I’m invigorated for our new fiscal year and by our leadership’s innovative ideas and infectious passion for the organization’s mission and vision,” Hills continued.
