Charity baseball game raises funds for heart health

The 2018 Oldtime Baseball Game was played in Cambridge on Thursday, Aug. 16, at St. Peter’s Field in Cambridge. This year’s game was played in memory of Steve Harris, a longtime hockey writer for the Boston Herald, who died of a heart condition in February. Funds raised from the game benefitted the American Heart Association, and will be used to donate floor hockey kits to Boston schools in need of athletic equipment.

The annual event sees a mix of college ball players and retired professional Boston athletes don retro, flannel uniforms representing various teams — and eras — throughout baseball history. This year’s game featured former Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, Bruins legend Rick Middleton, and former Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni.
