Greater Washington Region Youth Mobilize to End Vaping

The American Heart Association, Greater Washington Region is proud to partner with

The Teen Age Group (TAG) of Greater Suburban Maryland’s Jack & Jill partnered with the Greater Washington Region American Heart Association to end vaping.

The Teen Age Group (TAG) of Greater Suburban Maryland’s Jack & Jill of America Inc.  to raise awareness on the dangers of vaping through the #QuitLying campaign and the launch of their own PSA campaign, “No Smoke.”

The “No Smoke” Vaping PSA Release Party on January 11th wasn’t just your regular party- it was a packed party with a purpose. The goal: to get our youth tobacco free.

By now, you have likely heard of the latest epidemic impacting teens across the country: vaping.  Big Vape has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on advertisements targeting youth in the last few years, and it shows. It is estimated that more than 5 million teens now use e- cigarettes. Fortunately, teenagers are also the loudest speaking out against Big Vape and their marketing strategies. The American Heart Association is proud to be a part of the #QuitLying campaign as well as to support partners like, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. on their efforts to end tobacco use.

#QuitLying is an aggressive, nationwide youth, school and community engagement and

#Quityling

awareness campaign designed to hold leading e-cigarette manufacturer JUUL and the e-cigarette industry accountable for their lies to youth about vaping and nicotine addiction. The campaign empowers teens with facts and tools for social media sharing via the QuitLying.org website. The platform allows students, teachers and parents to access and share educational resources, tips and tools for quitting e-cigarette use, and guidance on becoming activists in the fight wherever they are. By leading school and community forums designed to elevate the dialogue, the American Heart Association will help combat the industry’s misinformation with facts about the health threats posed by e-cigarette use on youth.

This campaign compliments the work of Jack & Jill’s Legislative Advocacy Program by campaigning for federal, state and community lawmakers to pass legislation that supports the prevention of youth nicotine addiction. On Saturday, January 11th Greater Suburban Maryland’s Jack & Jill’s Teen Age Group hosted a Vaping PSA Release Party at The Hecht Warehouse at Ivy City in Washington, DC. The teens rolled out the red carpet for this event. The party featured a red carpet, music, food and the official release of the highly anticipated of the PSA. The proud teens who created the PSA came to the front of the room, gave thanks to their parents, advisors, videographer, make-up artist and the American Heart Association before rolling the footage of the feature presentation. After a large round of applause the teens encouraged their peers all take out their phones, take selfies and post to social media using #AntiVaping, #ChangeTheNarrative, #QuitLying and #GSMJJ. To check out their PSA visit @gsmjackandjill on the first ever national #QuitLying Day, January 16, 2020.  #QuitLying is part of a three-pronged approach to help end youth vaping. The other elements are a new $20 million research investment, called the End the Lies Youth Vaping and Nicotine Research Initiative, focused on the long-term health effects in youth, and a multi-year fund dedicated to public policy change at all levels of government to prevent youth vaping and nicotine addiction.

Thank you again to Greater Suburban Maryland’s Jack & Jill teens for joining us in this fight! Let’s see #QuitLying take over on social media from today on! https://www.quitlying.org/
