Active kids have a better chance of a healthy adulthood, and what better way to stay active than sports? The American Heart Association Hampton Roads and local Heart Ball sponsor, Planet Fitness celebrated a successful “A Ball for All” initiative, to support the students of YELLOWHAB, the first of a network of micro-schools offering individualized learning aligned to the future of work, founded by visionary recording artist, producer, songwriter, philanthropist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur, Pharrell Williams under the umbrella of his foundation, YELLOW.
Thanks to the support of the community, each student of YELLOWHAB will receive two athletic balls collected by The American Heart Association and Planet Fitness.
“Focusing on the wellness of our students is paramount to what we’re doing at YELLOWHAB. With the support of the American Heart Association, we’re able to bring our mission to fruition,” said Dr. Avery Williams, Site Coordinator for YELLOWHAB.
“Physical activity in children promotes better brain function, bone health and academic performance. We are happy to support the students of YELLOWHAB and encourage their health and wellness to be a priority. Each Planet Fitness in Hampton Roads played an integral role in the success of A Ball for All and we look forward to continuing to make a difference in the community together,” MeShall Hills, Executive Director of the American Heart Association Hampton Roads expressed.
With back-to-school season rapidly approaching, students will have to readjust to an in-person learning environment after what has been an extended period of virtual activity. The American Heart Association recommends that kids get at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity every day. Preparing for a heart healthy future, begins with sitting less, and moving more.
