Lou Gianquinto, President, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut and Paul Marchetti, President, CarelonRx to Co-Chair Greater New Haven Heart Walk
The American Heart Association, the largest voluntary health organization fighting cardiovascular diseases, announces Lou Gianquinto, President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut and Paul Marchetti, President of CarelonRx are serving as co-chairs of the Greater New Haven Heart Walk. The annual Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
As Co-Chairs, Gianquinto and Marchetti will lead organizational and recruitment efforts in the Greater New Haven region to increase awareness of heart disease and stroke as the number one and number 5 leading causes of death in the United States, and to raise critical funds to combat these startling statistics. Building on their company’s mission to improve lives and communities and remove barriers to health equity, they will call on area volunteers, survivors, and business leaders to step up to support the organization’s efforts to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke.
“Serving as Chair of the Greater New Haven Heart Walk for a third year provides the opportunity for me to continue the tremendous momentum we’ve created in the region in bringing education and wellness to our communities,” said Gianquinto. “The health of our employees and their families is important to me. By working with the American Heart Association, Paul and I are focusing on making an impact on our collective health and making a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke for everyone in Connecticut.”
As president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, Gianquinto leads a health plan supporting the health needs of more than one million lives in Connecticut. His team works to simplify healthcare and improve lives for the members Anthem serves across the state, as well as the communities where they live and work. He joined Anthem in January 2020 to run Anthem’s Missouri Medicaid health plan (Missouri Care, now branded Healthy Blue MO). He brings his deep industry experience to his current role where he is working to grow and innovate, particularly in the area of value-based care, in service of people across the state.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Connecticut each year,” said Marchetti. “I am eager to take on this leadership role and have the opportunity to promote health and wellness and raise funds to support such a critical cause. Lou and I are committed to supporting our employees and the individuals living in the communities we serve.”
As president, Paul Marchetti is responsible for advancing CarelonRx’s integrated, whole-person approach to care delivery and for driving programs and strategies that lead to improved affordability and outcomes.
Marchetti has more than 25 years of payer and provider experience in healthcare delivery systems, business operations, product development, population health, and technology solutions. Most recently, he was Chief Growth Officer of New Century Health, and has previously held various leadership roles with other leading health organizations.
“We are grateful to have two exemplary leaders in Greater New Haven who will help us bring health and wellness to communities by raising funds and awareness in the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Adria Giordano, Executive Director, American Heart Association Connecticut. “Together they bring passion for progress and a commitment to our mission, which aligns with our Heart Walk efforts.”
