Counsel for a Cause returns to New York City to improve equitable health for all

Murray Goldfarb, Managing Partner, Real Estate, Brookfield, has been named Centennial Chair of the American Heart Association’s Counsel for a Cause campaign in New York City, a year-round initiative that brings together members of the legal and financial community to support the Association’s mission. As part of The Heart of New York City campaign, Counsel for a Cause (May 2, 2024) raises awareness and funds that drive research to fuel scientific discovery, remove barriers to access and quality care, and ensure that ALL New Yorkers have an equal opportunity to lead a healthy life.

According to a study published in the American Heart Association’s journal Stroke, working long hours for many years, the way many in the legal and financial industries regularly do, may add up to higher stroke risk. In that study, those who worked long hours had a 29% greater risk of stroke. Those who worked long hours for 10 years or more had a 45% greater risk. That research, along with the American Heart Association’s commitment to championing health equity was the motivation for launching Counsel for a Cause in New York City.

In 2024 the American Heart Association celebrates its centennial year, meaning that Mr. Goldfarb will have the special distinction of serving as the Counsel for a Cause campaign’s Centennial Chair.

“I’m proud to be able to support the American Heart Association during its centennial year,” said Murray Goldfarb, Managing Partner, Real Estate, Brookfield and Centennial Chair of the American Heart Association’s 2024 Counsel for a Cause. “It’s exciting to know that money raised through Counsel for a Cause will help fund research that will save so many more lives in the near-future and in the next 100 years. I am especially proud that, by focusing on providing much-needed resources and education to historically excluded communities, our campaign has impacted thousands in our city and will continue to do so for many years to come.”

The American Heart Association Centennial – celebrates 100 years of progress and a vision for a brighter future for all. It’s a celebration of our history, while positioning us as a change agent for generations to come.

“As we celebrate our 100th birthday we promise to never stop being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives,” said Meg Gilmartin, Executive Director and Senior Vice President, American Heart Association, New York City. “As we move into the second century of our work, we are focused on advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere. Our future is about improving yours.”
