Student‑led fundraiser supports the American Heart Association’s mission to advance lifesaving cardiovascular research and strengthen community health

Beat for Good, Villanova University’s student‑run organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by cardiovascular disease, hosted its inaugural cycling fundraiser, Cycle Nova, on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The event brought students and community members together to raise awareness and critical funds for the American Heart Association’s work in advancing lifesaving research and strengthening community health.
Beat for Good is part of the Heart Association’s Heart Club, a national, student‑led program that empowers young leaders through fundraising, community engagement, leadership development and well‑being initiatives. As an official Heart Club, all funds raised through Cycle Nova directly support the Association’s mission to improve cardiovascular health and help people live longer, healthier lives.
“Cycle Nova is such an awesome way for students to come together, get moving and support a cause that impacts so many families—mine included,” said Anthony Garenani, founder of Beat for Good at Villanova University. “It means a lot to know we’re helping the Heart Association make a real difference while also honoring my dad, who inspired this whole effort.”
Beat for Good was founded by the two Garenani brothers—Anthony at Villanova and Michael at Cornell University—each establishing a chapter on their own campus in memory of their father, Dr. Christopher “Dr. G” Garenani, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 2008. Remembered for his compassion and deep commitment to community, Dr. G left behind his wife and seven young children. Guided by their mother, the Garenani family grew up embracing health, activity and service—values that now shape Beat for Good’s mission.
Today, Anthony and Michael channel their father’s spirit through their pre‑medical studies and their dedication to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, the world’s leading cause of death, and supporting initiatives that help prevent tragedies like the one that changed their family forever.
As Beat for Good continues to grow, the Garenani family’s commitment to transforming loss into purpose remains at the heart of its mission. Through Cycle Nova and future initiatives, Villanova students are helping advance the Heart Association’s work to save lives, empower communities and prevent the kinds of tragedies that forever changed their own. Together, they are building a legacy of action, hope and healthier tomorrows for families everywhere.
