Boston Heart Walk to be reimagined as weeklong digital experience

The Boston Heart Walk is getting a new look.

The annual American Heart Association campaign is being transformed this year into a weeklong, digital celebration of the work being funded to improve the health of Greater Boston.

The newly reimagined Boston Heart Walk will be held the week of October 19 and feature fun, daily activities promoting exercise, healthy eating, and other heart-healthy habits. Participants will be able to complete all activities from their homes and neighborhoods and are encouraged to share their experience on the Boston Heart Walk Facebook event page.

“We’re all looking for ways to connect with others, stay active and stay encouraged,” said Keith Slattery, market leadership team managing director at JPMorgan Chase and chair of the 2020 Boston Heart Walk. “This new format allows everyone to continue to have fun and support our lifesaving mission, while adapting to spending more time at home. We are grateful for the support from our community and can’t wait to see how everyone makes the Boston Heart Walk their own.”

In previous years, the Heart Walk has taken place at the Hatch Shell along the Charles River Esplanade in early September. This year’s event has been transformed to meet the health and safety needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The American Heart Association will engage walkers by sharing local stories highlighting the work they are funding to improve the health of Greater Boston. The Association will also help participating companies boost the physical and emotional health of their employees through a friendly, activity- and fundraising-based competition.

Heart Walk participants and donors are supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association during this current public health crisis and beyond. Funds raised by the campaign lead to medical breakthroughs, transform healthcare systems, support stronger public health policy, and much more.

The Heart Walk is part of the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge, a suite of events that aim to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and the community. Besides the Heart Walk, the Heart Challenge includes CycleNation, a team-based, stationary bike event, and Field Day, a day for companies to come together to participate in fun physical and mental challenges.

The Boston Heart Walk is locally sponsored by Boston Scientific, EY, JPMorgan Chase, Lantheus, PwC, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Medtronic.
