The co-chairs will lead the organizational and recruitment efforts in the greater Hartford area. They will call on hundreds of area volunteers, survivors, walkers, and business leaders to step up to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in the United States.

“Being part of this event is personal to me,” said House. “After the loss of Denise D’Ascenzo, my co-anchor and friend of more than 27 years from a heart-related issue, I am eager to take on this leadership role and raise awareness to create healthier lives.”

“The American Heart Association plays an important role in educating our communities about heart disease and stroke, and is instrumental in providing research in these fields,” said Sundlun. “Working together, we are making an impact on our collective health and making a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke.”

The Hartford Heart Walk, a community event and campaign focused on engaging local companies, corporations and community walk teams to support the mission of the Association, has set a goal of raising more than $200,000. Each day, nearly 2,400 Americans die from a cardiovascular disease. That’s an average of one death every 37 seconds.

“We are incredibly grateful for these leaders who are stepping up to move the needle when it comes to heart disease and stroke” said American Heart Association Executive Director, Adria Giordano. “Through the Hartford Heart Walk we are able to drive maximum impact and save lives right here in Connecticut.”
