March 20, Dover DE- On March 20, two of our Delaware volunteer leaders participated in a virtual press conference with Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) to mark Blood Clot Awareness Month. The Congresswoman introduced the Charles Rochester Blood Clot Prevention and Treatment Act (H.R. 5699)—which the American Heart Association has endorsed—in honor of her late husband who died from blood clots. During the press conference, she also unveiled a comprehensive resource titled “Blood Clot Awareness, Action, and Advocacy: The Toolkit” to help educate the public.
Rosemary Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, Bayhealth Medical Center, and Executive volunteer chair of the 2024 AHA Delaware Go Red for Women movement, spoke about what happens when blood clots reach the heart or brain, resulting in a heart attack or stroke, and shared her commitment to raising awareness and saving lives. Kimberly Holmes MSN, APRN, ACNS-BC, PCCN-K, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Primary Stroke Program Coordinator, Kent & Sussex Campuses, Bayhealth Medical Center, and former AHA Delaware Board President, highlighted some of our initiatives in Delaware including establishing the stroke system of care, working with hospitals to improve patient outcomes through Get With The Guidelines programs, and convening a Hypertension Control Network.
