The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) is pleased to announce Joanne Donaruma Wade as the chairwoman of the 2016 Utica-Rome Go Red For Women Luncheon. Wade will lead the fundraising efforts for the luncheon in the Greater Utica/Mohawk Valley area to help achieve the AHA’s 2020 impact goal: to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20%.

Money raised at events like the Go Red For Women Luncheon goes towards lifesaving research, advocacy, and education programs. The Go Red For Women movement focuses on raising awareness among women that heart disease is their greatest health threat. Cardiovascular diseases and stroke kill one in three women each year.

“My community is why I am proud to be involved with Go Red For Women,” said Donaruma Wade. “When I retired, I knew I wanted to stay involved in my community. I took up the Go Red For Women mission after hearing stories from several heart disease and stroke survivors. I want to ensure as many women as possible can prevent heart disease before they become a statistic.”

Donaruma Wade recently retired from The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NYSARC, where she served as the Director of the Employment Service Division. She has volunteered her time and talents to help young women with organizations such as the Good Old Summertime Festival Board of Directors and the Miss Greater Utica Pageant.

Donaruma Wade serves on several boards, including the Kelberman Center, the Leatherstocking Ballet, the MVCC Foundation, and the Sitrin Health Center Foundation.

The 2016 Go Red For Women Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 at Daniele’s Banquet Specialists. Earlier this month, the 2015 event raised $112,400 with help from more than 470 luncheon attendees.
