Dr. Suzie Mookherjee has been the keynote speaker at several Go Red for Women Luncheons across New York; served as an American Heart Association spokeswoman at public events and in local media; and served on the Capital Region Advisory board of the American Heart Association for six years, most recently as president of the board for two years.
On July 1, the Albany Med cardiologist was named to the eight-state board of the Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mookherjee to the Founders Affiliate Board of Directors,” said Founders Affiliate Executive Director Heather J. Kinder. “Being able to draw upon Suzie’s talent and expertise represents an invaluable asset as we work together across the eight states of the Founders Affiliate to achieve our mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
“I am honored to be part of the Founders Affiliate Board,” Mookherjee said. “We still need to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease as the number one cause of death in this country and around the world. Our local board has worked extremely hard to help pass laws by identifying opportunities to improve the health of Capital Region residents. I am excited to be invited to the group and be part of the mission of the Founders Affiliate.”
Mookherjee is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Albany Medical Center. She is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography.
Dr. Mookherjee is a Syracuse native who holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a master’s degree in natural science and physiology from SUNY Buffalo, and an M.D. from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. She did a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics followed by an adult cardiovascular fellowship at Albany Medical Center.
Cardiology runs in her family – her father, Dr. Saktipada Mookherjee, is a cardiologist in Syracuse. Her sister, Dr. Disha Mookherjee, is a cardiologist in Duluth, Minn.
The affiliate board leadership, in partnership with the Executive Vice President Heather Kinder, provide direction for the Founders Affiliate — one of seven national AHA designated regions which encompasses New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine – to further the American Heart Association mission and influence within the Northeast community.
