West Boylston Resident to Chair Central Massachusetts Heart Ball

On Saturday, March 25th, over 250 people are expected to gather at the American Heart Association’s Central Massachusetts Heart Ball, the organization’s premier social event. The event, which will be held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, will celebrate the achievements of local physicians, philanthropists and volunteers all with a common goal of raising funds to support the American Heart Association’s mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

This year’s event chair, Payam Aghassi, MD, PCCP, Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMass Medical School and President of Mass Lung & Allergy, PC, has set a goal of raising over $150,000 this year to help fund more research here in the commonwealth.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Aghassi as our chair for this year’s Central Massachusetts Heart Ball,” said Blair Young, American Heart Association’s Senior Director, Central Massachusetts. “He has been powerful in motivating the medical and business communities to support out mission and we know his work will be instrumental in the success of this year’s event.”

A West Boylston resident, Dr. Aghassi received his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UMass Medical School. He is currently the President of Mass Lung & Allergy, PC, and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Aghassi has been a tireless volunteer for the American Heart Association and a long-time supporter.

This year’s event, which raises funds to support the organization’s mission to help people enjoy more of life’s precious moments by living a longer, healthier life free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, will be hosted by Andy Mattison, reporter for Worcester News Tonight. The celebration will include an inspirational evening of dinner, dancing, live entertainment and a live and silent auction. The Central Massachusetts Heart Ball is sponsored by Mass Lung & Allergy, the Worcester Railers Hockey Club, Community Neuroscience Services, Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, Hanover Insurance Group, Vibra Hospital, Charter TV3, Charter Spectrum and WXLO.
