Walkers Fight Long Island’s No. 1, No. 5 Killers – Heart Disease, Stroke at Long Island Heart Walk

They walked for Long Island friends and neighbors, they walked for family members and loved ones, they walked in honor and in memory of the close to 9,600 people on Long Island that die each year from cardiovascular diseases and stroke – Long Island’s No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death. They walked to start a healthier journey and a healthier life.

Led by Bob Isaksen, Market President, Bank of America, Long Island and Chair of the 2017 Long Island Heart Walk, Maddie Kellerman,, 7 year old Heart Survivor, 2017 Red Cape Ambassador, Jim Douglas, MAX 103.1-FM, event emcee and almost 5,000 walkers on a beautiful day stepped out on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Jones Beach to help save Long Island lives from heart disease and stroke.  “Serving as chair of the American Heart Association’s Long Island Heart Walk was a true honor,” said Bob Isaksen, Market President, Bank of America. “I want to thank everyone who participated in the heart walk by forming a team or supporting as a sponsor.  The success of the heart walk will save many lives.” said Isaksen.

The Long Island Heart Walk was an opportunity for people to improve their health by walking, while simultaneously raising funds to help fight heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association also believes now is the time to

fight for lasting change. It’s time to put our health first and create a movement that truly lasts which is why the American Heart Association was proud to announce their new Heart Walk program called “Healthy For Good”.

This year’s Long Island Heart Walk featured interactive and compelling life-changing information and activities including the first “Add Color Graffiti Wall” sponsored by Chase and a Kidz Zone sponsored by Voxx featuring face painting, crafts, and games for kids and families.
