Now that the books have officially closed on the Southern Tier Heart Walk, we have some exciting news to share. The 2018 Southern Tier Heart Walk was our best year ever!
Because of you, we raised a record $288,174 at the Heart Walk, exceeding our goal of $280,000. That incredible amount will help us save lives and fight heart disease and stroke in the Southern Tier!
The 2018 Heart Walk was led by chairman Dr. Joseph Scopelliti, with platform sponsor Guthrie. “We are proud to have been part of this incredible year,” said Dr. Scopelliti. “Our success comes from raising awareness of cardiac wellness and building a better, healthier, stronger community.”
In addition to our best fundraising year ever, we made a big impact on the community this year. Fifteen Southern Tier companies received recognition in the Workplace Health Solutions program, up from just five last year. That’s 15 companies that are working to create a culture of health in the workplace, impacting thousands of local employees. Money raised at events like the Heart Walk is currently funding more than $1 million in research being conducted at Binghamton University and Cornell University. Research funded by the American Heart Association could lead to the next big breakthrough in our efforts to cure heart disease and stroke.
“We look forward to many more years of success together with the American Heart Association,” said Dr. Scopelliti. “Together, we can help advance corporate workplace wellness, medical research, and build on the success of the best Heart Walk ever.”
Help us beat the record next year! The 2019 Southern Tier Heart Walk will be held on Sunday, April 7th at the SUNY Broome Ice Center. Kathy Connerton and platform sponsor Lourdes | Ascension are already working on a great event to celebrate our 30th anniversary!
