Why learning Hands-Only CPR is the best gift you can give your loved ones

If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend. About 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home and as one study reports, the holiday season is prime time for them to occur as cardiac arrest deaths are 33% higher in December and January starting around Thanksgiving.  The stats are staggering but there is something we can all do to help. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival!  It only takes a minute to learn the steps to save a life using Hands-Only CPR.

To make an even greater impact, you can join the AHA and Cor Vitae to support CPR in Schools by donating CPR kits that serve to train students in Hands-Only CPR.

“CPR is why” says Bill Pelham, Champion Circle, Cor Vitae Society member from Greenville, SC.  Bill has graciously supported the AHA’s CPR in Schools initiative in a middle school, a high school and a college in the Upstate.

Bill learned Hands-Only CPR at a recent “Party with a Purpose” event hosted in the home of Jean and Peter Helwing.  The event trained over 65 of the Helwing’s friends with this lifesaving skill and raised awareness of the work of the AHA.

Through gifts like Bill’s you can ensure schools in your community have the CPR training kits they need so that new generations of lifesavers can continue to learn this lifesaving skill. Learn how you can join the Cor Vitae Society.
