Baseball Mascots Knock it Out of the Park and Go Red Too!

On the first Friday of every February, which is designated as American Heart Month, the nation comes together, igniting a wave of red from coast to coast. From landmarks to news anchors and neighborhoods to online communities; this annual groundswell unites millions of people for a common goal: the eradication of heart disease and stroke.

Baseball teams in Maryland and DC also got into their best red to help save lives. The American Heart Association Greater Washington and Maryland offices issued a challenge to sports mascots – help us save lives and support Wear Red Day!  Three local teams heard the call loud and clear! The Washington National’s Screech, Louie from the Bowie Baysox, and Ferrous

from the Aberdeen Ironbirds donned their best red and took to Twitter to share!

Prior to Go Red for Women, only 30 percent of women knew that heart disease was their greatest health threat. A decade after Go Red for

Women launched, close to 56 percent of women recognized this fact, nearly a 90 percent increase in

awareness.  Let’s keep up the good work and #WearRedandGive.
