A Return to the Kitchen

On Monday, March 11, 2019, the Simple Cooking with Heart Baltimore Kitchen re-opened in their new space at the UA House at Fayette operated by Living Classrooms. Our mission at the Simple Cooking with Heart Kitchen is to teach our Baltimore neighbors how to prepare simple, delicious and inexpensive meals at home so they can enjoy the benefits of eating healthier and feel more confident cooking for their families, and we’re thrilled to be able to get back to this great and necessary work.

The Grand Re-Opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by volunteer leaders, corporate and community partners and members of the Greater Baltimore community who have been anxiously awaiting the return of the kitchen.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, the re-opening week has seen a flurry of activities with classes hosted by renown Chef Elle Simone from America’s Test Kitchen and 2018 Healthy Little Cooks, Healthy Kids Cook-Off winner, youth chef Naima Winston. Additionally, the local AHA team launched a new series, Simple Cooking with Heart Kitchen Conversations, to engage community members in conversations about health and wellness. The conversations, held around a makeshift kitchen table in the Simple Cooking with Heart Kitchen, allow AHA staff and volunteers to share stories and experiences that help inform community members about AHA priority topics and more. The first three conversations centered on sodium reduction, living with heart disease and culinary workforce development.
