This year will be the biggest Boston Heart Walk yet. By moving the action online, the American Heart Association is going to bring the experience to participants wherever the are.
This 2020 walk is going to touch more hearts, move more feet and raise more life-saving funds than ever before.
Local companies are playing a big role in that.
Companies from industries across Greater Boston will be coming together in a friendly fundraising and walker recruitment competition. It’s called the Industry Challenge.
The winning companies will be celebrated during the Heart Walk, which is being held from Oct. 19-24. Keep an eye on bostonheartwalk.org and stay tuned for weekly emails with leaderboard updates.
Companies are competing in the following categories:
- Pharma, Manufacturing and Medical Devices
- Finance and Consulting
- Technology and Transportation
- Health and Fitness
- Hospitals and Healthcare (Locally sponsored by Lantheus Medical Imaging)
Even though walkers can’t be together in person, they can all still rally behind one mission, to save more lives from heart diseases and stroke.
While COVID-19 has changed many things about people’s lives, it has not changed the importance of the American Heart Association’s mission. There are 120 million people in the United States who currently have one or more cardiovascular condition who are more likely to be seriously affected by the virus.
The American Heart Association is confronting COVID-19 by:
- Providing healthcare workers with ventilator training
- Training hospitals and communities in CPR
- Investing $2.5 million in life-saving research
- Helping accelerate the discovery of antiviral drugs
- Advocating to provide families greater access to care
Because of the companies participation in the Industry Cup Challenge and support from their employees, this amazing work is possible.
The Boston Heart Walk is locally sponsored by: Boston Scientific, JPMorgan Chase, EY, PwC, Lantheus Medical Imaging, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Medtronic, Accenture, Sentinel Benefits and Boston Mutual.
