The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, will hold its 15th annual Maine Go Red for Women® Luncheon on March 23 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.
The Go Red for Women Luncheon, chaired by Joan Smith, Principal with Baker Newman Noyes, is designed to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States, as well as generate funds for lifesaving cardiovascular research for women. The Go Red for Women Luncheon has been happening in Portland for 15 years and this year’s goal is to raise $400,000 for the Go Red for Women movement.
The event kicks off with an expert panel discussion and Q&A session with Dr. Amy Riviere, a MaineHealth cardiologist, and Anne L’Heureux, a Registered Dietitian with Hannaford Supermarkets, and moderated by Courtney Ross, morning host with 101.9 POR. The main speaking program, emceed by Channel 8 WMTW Anchor Kathleen Jordan, will feature inspiring survivor stories, heart-health and stroke education, and the presentation of the Crystal Heart awards.
Each year, the Luncheon’s leadership committee nominates two individuals who strive to make Maine a better place to live, work, and play through their commitment to the well-being of Mainers. This year’s honorees are David Landry, Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Healthcare Partners, and Laurie LaChance, President of Thomas College.
Maine survivor Faith Brackett will share her lifelong battle with heart disease. “Before I even knew about the American Heart Association, they were raising funds to do vital research that helped save me and many, many others. They continue to do groundbreaking research so that more and more of our loved ones can lead healthier lives,” said Brackett.
Since 2004, Go Red for Women has had a profound impact on women’s health. As the trusted, passionate, and relevant force to eradicate heart disease and stroke, through the Go Red for Women movement, the Association remains steadfast and committed to meeting the comprehensive health needs of women — at every life stage.
