Susan Hubley of Capital Blue Cross to chair Capital Region Heart Ball

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, has named Susan Hubley, vice president of corporate social responsibility at Capital Blue Cross, as chair of the 2022 Capital Region Heart Ball, set for Saturday, April 2 at the Hershey Lodge. In this role, Hubley is focused on driving equitable health for every member of our community and raising critical funds to support the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.

“If we can help more people understand the signs and symptoms of heart disease and, most importantly, how to prevent it, we have the potential to help thousands of people in our community gain a longer, healthier life,” said Hubley. “Getting the word out about the mission of the American Heart Association and raising funds through events like the Heart Ball is important to so many people because heart disease impacts all of us.”

Susan Hubley has over 30 years of community relations experience in the health care industry. In her role as vice president of corporate social responsibility at Capital Blue Cross, Hubley is a champion of the company’s community partnerships. She leads a team focused on strengthening outreach initiatives and community partnerships, and managing the corporate giving process. Hubley also works to raise awareness and grow the company’s participation in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through education and community outreach in the Capital Blue Cross service area.

Previous to serving as Heart Ball chair, Hubley served on the event’s executive leadership team and led other campaigns for the American Heart Association locally including serving as chair of the 2020 and 2021 Go Red for Women campaigns. In addition to her service to the American Heart Association, Hubley currently serves on the board of directors for the YWCA Greater Harrisburg and Tres Bonne Annee, and is a member of the United Way of the Capital Region’s community impact committee. She was recently recognized by the West Shore Chamber of Commerce with the Visionary Award for her leadership in the community. Hubley is a graduate of Shippensburg University.

As Heart Ball chair, Hubley leads a 6-person executive leadership team that includes:

  • Ron Bonacci, vice president of marketing and advertising, Weis Markets
  • Ellen Kyzer, vice president, client and community relations director, PNC Bank
  • Rhonda Laing, senior community relations consultant, Capital Blue Cross
  • Courtney Levengood, community relations coordinator, Capital Blue Cross
  • Shelly Miller, manager of cardiovascular/thoracic outreach and recruitment, UPMC
  • Jessica Ritchie, vice president of development, UPMC Pinnacle Foundation

“The Heart Ball has always united our incredible local health care professionals, heart and stroke survivors and community leaders to celebrate everything that they have helped the American Heart Association accomplish and ensure that we can continue to drive progress toward saving lives and equitable health for everyone,” said Kristie Davis, development director for the American Heart Association. “We’re excited to have Susan Hubley at the head of our executive leadership team as we look forward to bringing our supporters back together in person.”

The dollars raised by the Capital Region Heart Ball fund the mission of the American Heart Association to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives while working toward the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality.

This year’s Capital Region Heart Ball is sponsored by UPMC, Capital Blue Cross, Weis Markets, M&T Bank, Quandel Construction, Polaris Advisors, Sun Motor Cars and other generous contributors.
