Blair County women set to reconnect in person at Go Red for Women event May 26

After nearly two years away from in person events, the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, is inviting Blair County women to reunite and “Reclaim Your Rhythm” at the annual Blair Go Red for Women event and fashion show. The event will take place on Thursday, May 26 from 6-9 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona.

WTAJ meteorologist Christy Shields will serve as emcee of the 2022 Blair Go Red for Women event and fashion show

Guests will have the opportunity to network while browsing a designer purse silent auction. They will also be treated to a heart-healthy dinner and entertaining program hosted by Christy Shields of WTAJ. The event is designed to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States, as well as generate funds for lifesaving cardiovascular research for women.

The evening’s program will include inspiring speakers, including the stories of local survivors, recognition of this year’s Woman of Impact winner, as well as a fun fashion show featuring some special models who are health care heroes and survivors. The American Heart Association will also present two awards – the Healthy Lifestyle Change Award to a local woman who has made a positive change in their health and the Heart Hall of Fame Award to a local health care leader who is making a difference in the heart health of the community.

Tommi Burchfield, 2022 Blair Go Red for Women chair

“Younger women, Gen Z and Millennials, are less likely to be aware that heart disease is their greatest health threat, yet 1 in 3 women die from cardiovascular disease,” said Tommi Burchfield, strategic partnership manager at Personal Care Medical Associates and chair of the 2022 Blair Go Red for Women campaign. “Over the past couple of years, we’ve all gotten a little out of sync and many women have been struggling to maintain their responsibilities and their own physical health and mental wellbeing. This year’s event is all about reclaiming a healthy rhythm to your life and celebrating members of our community who have been a big part of helping us all lead healthier lives.”

Since 2004, Go Red for Women has had a profound impact on women’s health. As the trusted, passionate, and relevant force to eradicate heart disease and stroke, through the Go Red for Women movement, the American Heart Association remains steadfast and committed to meeting the comprehensive health needs of women — at every life stage.

Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by CVS Health and locally sponsored by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan, Conemaugh Health System, the Nason Foundation and other local companies. For more information, visit blairgored.heart.org.
