Portland, Maine, May 9, 2025 — The American Heart Association, the worldwide leader in resuscitation science and education, is adding lifesavers to the chain of survival by teaming up with MaineHealth to donate Infant CPR Anytime® Training Kits to Maine families.

On Thursday, May 8th, the American Heart Association and MaineHealth presented the kits to the Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine. Thomas A. Miller, DO, pediatric cardiologist with MaineHealth, briefly highlighted the importance of learning infant CPR to JCA staff and volunteers.

A total of 170 kits will be distributed this spring and summer to participants in the Jewish Community Alliance (JCA) Diaper Bank program. The kit helps new parents and families with infants be prepared for an infant emergency, including performing CPR with breaths on infants. The kit is portable and includes a baby manikin and interactive app, making it easy to share these important lifesaving skills with family, friends, and babysitters.
According to the Association, currently 90% of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die, in part because they do not receive CPR more than half of the time. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. With 70% of cardiac arrests happening at home, the life you save could likely be someone you know or love. The Association urges every family to join the Nation of Lifesavers and learn CPR.
