Over 100 golfers from more than 20 local companies convened for a day of golf and lifesaving impact
ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 22, 2025 – The American Heart Association, Greater Washington Region hosted its 40th annual Golf Tournament benefitting the Association’s mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. This year’s tournament raised more than $125,000.

Hosted at Woodmont Country Club, the tournament was a captain’s choice scramble with 18 holes of golf, special challenges and awards for longest drive, closest to the pin and first place scorers on each course. This game connects to the mission of the Association; research shows that golf can lower stress and improve physical health.
Michael Kirshbaum, chief financial officer of EAB, returned for the second year to chair the tournament. “For 40 years and counting, golfers of all skill levels have come together to make strides for community health across the region,” said Kirshbaum. “That’s a legacy worth celebrating.”

Survivor Andres Virgen took the stage after the tournament to share his story. “As a personal trainer, athlete and through my work with the D.C. Public Defender Service, I see the many faces of heart disease. It doesn’t always look like what you’d expect, and I’m living proof. Two years after my heart event, I’m pushing forward; I ran the Lawyers Have Heart 10k in May, completed a triathlon in June and I’m here today after a great day of golf with all of you.”
The Golf Tournament is made possible thanks to the support of local sponsors: Blake Real Estate, Bob Lutz, Buch Construction, Capitol Petroleum Group, Coforma, Crescent Cities Charities, Cross Country Consulting, DC Friends of Ireland, Earle Layman, KLNB, Liuna, Lockton, Main Digital, Marsh McLennan Agency, Michael Kirshbaum, Michael Preston, PEAC Solutions, PerfectServe, PwC, Rand Construction, RELI Group, Rich Sawchak, SheppardMullin, Steve Lerman, Systems Planning and Analysis, Take2 Consulting, Ullico, Werther & Mills and Wiley Rein.

This event is part of the Heart of Greater Washington campaign, a year-round effort that unites individuals and companies across the D.C. metro area to raise lifesaving funds that fuel innovations in cardiovascular science and advance health and hope for all. The campaign drives awareness of heart disease and stroke prevention and supports health equity programming with a focus on nutrition security, CPR education, hypertension control and more. The Golf Tournament and Greater Washington Heart Ball are the signature fundraising events associated with the campaign.
There is still time to support the mission behind the Golf Tournament! Donations will be accepted until September 30.
