On November 7, thousands of people will come together in support of the American Heart Association at the Greater Washington Region Heart Walk, which hosts hundreds of community teams of supporters from all walks of life. One such team is the Wisdom Walkers. Powered by the mantra that “every step changes lives,” 10 members of the Wisdom Walkers, a community dedicated to healthy aging through fitness and service, completed a 128-kilometer voyage along Spain’s El Camino route. Wisdom Walkers is one of the largest organized groups of African American adults to cross this finish line.

Through the pilgrimage, the walkers raised awareness and funds for the American Heart Association and for the Association of Black Cardiologists.
“Every step honored someone we love, inspired someone to become more active and helped create healthier communities,” said Sharon Goods, founder of Wisdom Walkers.
The mission behind the organization goes beyond group fitness: the Wisdom Walkers are working to advance research and treatment to address health issues that disproportionately affect African Americans.

This fall, create a team and join others like the Wisdom Walkers and lace up your sneakers for the Greater Washington Region Heart Walk, a day to celebrate survivors, learn Hands-Only CPR and take heartfelt steps to create even more lifesaving moments. Register here.
