The American Heart Association is pleased to announce that Ali N. Zaidi, MD will be the medical honoree at the American Heart Association’s 25th Annual Hamptons Heart Ball. In his role as honoree, Dr. Zaidi will assist in raising support and creating awareness about heart disease and stroke as it pertains to the Long Island and New York City communities. The 25th Annual Hamptons Heart Ball will take place on Thursday, June 24 at 7:00pm as a digital event celebration.
The Heart of the Hamptons campaign takes the Heart Ball beyond the table into a year-round campaign bringing the work of the American Heart Association to life. Through the Heart of the Hamptons and Heart Ball campaign, we celebrate our collective success in driving change, funding science, improving behaviors, and driving equitable health – no matter where, or how, we gather.
Ali N Zaidi, MD is the System Director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Mount Sinai, who received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Zaidi is one of only a few selected cardiologists’ in the U.S. who has been board certified in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, Adult Cardiovascular Disease, Adult Echocardiography and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. His clinical interests include care of adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, pregnancy in women with congenital heart defects. Dr. Zaidi’s mission with this award is to spread awareness about congenital heart disease, especially the transition from pediatric care to adult once patients are in their teens.
Congenital heart disease is the No. 1 birth defect in the United States, and every year nearly one out of 100 babies is born with some form of congenital heart disease. His focus has been on educating patients with congenital heart disease and their families about the importance of staying in care and transitioning to appropriate Adult Congenital Heart Disease care as they become young adults. It is estimated that there are now more than 2 million adults with congenital heart disease in the United States, but the majority of them aren’t getting the care they need and this can lead to long term morbidity and mortality.
“I am very humbled to be the honoree of the Hamptons Heart Ball,” said Dr. Zaidi. “Events like these are very important for the American Heart Association because the money raised will help the fight against our nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers — heart disease and stroke. It will also help fund lifesaving research, advocate for better health, improve patient care and reach at-risk populations. We need patients and their families especially those with congenital heart disease, to be advocates for themselves, so that they may reach all their goals in life,” said Dr. Zaidi.
