Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of women, affecting nearly half of women ages 20 and older—yet too many women are still unaware of their greatest health threat.
Go Red for Women helps connect women with their greatest resource: each other.
The 2027 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors is an inspiring sisterhood of survivors who share their personal journeys to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke while empowering other women to take charge of their health and well-being.
These remarkable women serve as ambassadors for the Go Red for Women movement and the American Heart Association across New York City. More importantly, they become part of a meaningful community grounded in strength, resilience, support, and survivorship.
Members of the 2027 Go Red for Women Class of survivors will participate in:
- Share their stories through media, events, and digital platforms
- Participate in Go Red for Women campaigns and educational initiatives
- Help raise awareness about heart disease and stroke in women
- Serve as role models and advocates within their communities

American Heart Association opens casting call for 2026 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors
The American Heart Association is seeking New York-based women impacted by heart disease and stroke to apply for the 2026 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors. These ambassadors will share their stories to raise awareness and inspire others to remain proactive about their health. Members of the 2026 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors will serve as representatives for the New York City Go Red for Women movement throughout the year, with opportunities to appear in local media, awareness campaigns, on our website and at our local events.
The application is open September 15-October 24, 2025.

Meet our 2025 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors
The 2025 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors included Sharon Bond, Bonni Brodnick, Cristina Civetta, Danielle Cundiff, Carolina Hernandez, Raquel Hutt, Jen Lentini, Maddi Niebanck, and Nicole Salzano. These women are champions of the American Heart Association’s mission, utilizing their platforms and networks to empower other New York women to put their health first.
In 2023, women’s health represented just 2% of the $41.2 billion in venture funding that went to health innovators. Go Red for Women is funding critical, lifesaving research to address the unique risk factors and needs of women.
“We created this class to share the true faces of heart disease and bring to the forefront women’s reality – heart disease is our number one killer,” said Cristina Civetta, a member of the 2025 New York City Go Red for Women Class of Survivors and founder, sponsor of the initiative, along with her husband, Ed Scheetz.

Wear Red for Women’s heart health on National Wear Red Day®
This National Wear Red Day, the first Friday in February, people and landmarks across the U.S. – from news desks to iconic buildings – will “Go Red” once again to raise awareness and education around women’s heart health as part of the American Heart Association’s American Heart Month celebration.
The American Heart Association in New York City will also announce their 2025 New York City Class of Survivors.
“National Wear Red Day isn’t just about wearing red; it’s about coming together to demand more when it comes to the heart health and well-being of our communities. It’s about raising awareness so women know their risks, and supporting them in the journey to better health,” said Ms. Civetta. “I’m proud to be a part of this class of survivors to rally together and unite against the No. 1 killer of women. Together, we can ensure every woman has equal opportunities to live longer, healthier lives.”
