Boston 25 News covered the 2024 Boston Heart Walk, amplifying the American Heart Association’s mission to fight heart disease and stroke in Greater Boston. Watch their report below.
Held at the Boston Common, this year’s event brought together thousands to walk, share stories, and rally for heart health in Greater Boston and beyond.
The day opened with an emotional performance of the national anthem by singer Valerie Giglio from Stoneham. Valerie’s journey is one of true resilience; after suffering a stroke in 2014 that left her paralyzed on one side and voiceless, she worked tirelessly to regain both her physical abilities and her passion for singing. Her powerful return to music symbolizes hope for all those affected by stroke.
Scott Daley, a heart surgery survivor and this year’s volunteer Heart Walk chair, spoke on behalf of survivors and families impacted by heart disease. Daley, general manager of U.S. business at Reebok, has transformed his own experience into advocacy.
Reebok has also shown its commitment to heart health by pledging $1 for every pair of shoes sold from their Walking Shoe Line to the American Heart Association. Daley’s leadership and Reebok’s generosity are helping to drive critical funding for lifesaving research and resources.
Boston 25 also highlighted Ron Gilberto’s story. After surviving sudden cardiac arrest in 2021, thanks to his daughter Claire’s swift CPR, Ron became an advocate for CPR training. At the walk, he encouraged attendees to get certified in CPR, reinforcing that this simple skill can mean the difference between life and death.
The walk featured scenic 1- and 3-mile routes, giving participants the opportunity to connect and reflect on the importance of heart health. Read more coverage from Boston 25 News here.
