The American Heart Association welcomes Eduardo Ortiz’s return as chair of the Heart of Greater Washington campaign, a year-round initiative that brings together individuals and organizations across the D.C. metro area to raise funds for cardiovascular research, prevention and education.
The campaign will culminate in the Heart Ball, scheduled for March 13, 2027, at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C. The event celebrates hope and progress made through the dedication and passion of all who support the Association’s efforts to save and improve lives.
Ortiz is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, a former member of the U.S. Digital Service, and a recognized leader in civic tech. In 2017, he and two others co-founded Coforma, a digital services firm focused on developing technology solutions, where he now serves as CEO.
As chair of last year’s campaign, Eduardo Ortiz and Coforma powered efforts to expand equitable health in the Greater Washington Region and support the veteran community. Thanks to support from Coforma, six D.C.-area food pantries received healthy pantry policies, blood pressure screenings and smoking cessation resources. In addition, three local veteran-serving organizations were equipped with blood pressure screening stations to help clients prevent hypertension.
“I’m excited to return as chair, because this work isn’t finished,” said Ortiz. “Veterans, families with limited resources, and people of color face a higher risk of heart disease, and that gap won’t close on its own. This campaign is an opportunity to show up and make a difference so that people in the Greater Washington Region can live longer, healthier lives.”

The Heart of Greater Washington campaign brings together individuals and organizations across the D.C. metro area to raise funds for cardiovascular research, prevention and education. Key focus areas include nutrition security, CPR education and cardiac emergency response preparedness, hypertension control and equitable access to quality care.
