Arundel Woman to Share Her Close Call With Heart Disease at Oct. 25 Go Red Event in Kennebunkport

Arundel Heart Survivor Mary Toussaint will share her story at the Go Red York County Event.

The 13th annual Go Red For Women event for York County is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25th at The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. This American Heart Association (AHA) event is focused on raising awareness of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in women as well as educating attendees on how to prevent this widespread health threat.

Dr. Brandei Wingard, Medical Director of Southern Maine Health Care Cardiology, will conduct a session, “Understanding the Symptoms of Heart Disease in Women”.

 

 

The dinner program, emceed by Channel 8 WMTW Anchor Tracy Sabol, will feature a local guest survivor speaker. Mary Toussaint of Arundel, who was selected as a Go Red spokeswoman for Maine in 2016, will share her close call with heart disease. “I thought my achy arm was due to too much shopping,” said Toussaint. “It turns out I was actually having a heart attack. Luckily, my husband urged me to go to the hospital because I had another heart attack there. Women, please don’t brush off your symptoms!” 

 

Noel Graydon, Regional Vice President, Commercial Lending, Norway Savings Bank, is the 2017 Event Chairman and has a goal to raise $50,000 with 180 attendees. Registration, a silent auction and health screenings will begin at 4:30 p.m. with an educational break-out session starting at 5:15.

 

“Understanding the Symptoms of Heart Disease in Women”, will be presented by Dr. Brandei Wingard, Medical Director of Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) Cardiology, and is sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank. In addition, SMHC nurses will be on hand to provide blood pressure screenings and AHA volunteers will demonstrate Hands-Only CPR to any guests who wish to learn this lifesaving technique.

 

The event’s 2017 Crystal Heart Honoree is Tina Hewett-Gordon, General Manager of The Nonantum Resort. In addition to volunteering for countless organizations, Hewett-Gordon is a strong advocate for promoting Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training and for placing Automated External Defibrillators in hospitality locations throughout Maine.
