HARTFORD-AREA RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES TAKE STEPS TO BEAT HEART DISEASE

The American Heart Association will hold its annual Hartford Heart Walk on Saturday, October 15 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Over 2,000 supporters and survivors are expected to attend and raise funds to support cardiovascular research and education.

Walk activities begin at 9:00am. Prior to the walk kick-off, participants can enjoy complimentary health screenings, a kid’s zone with entertainment, and live music. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by the walk through Rentschler Field – rain or shine.

This year’s walk is being co-chaired by Dr. Garth Graham, president of the Aetna Foundation, and Dr. MaryLynn Ostrowski, executive director of the Aetna Foundation. As co-chairs, they will call on thousands of area volunteers, survivors, walkers, and business leaders to step up to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in the United States.walking

The Aetna Foundation will also present the annual 2016 Lifestyle Change Award. The Lifestyle Change Award celebrates individuals who have made significant healthy lifestyle changes such as weight loss, lowering cholesterol, improving blood pressure, or increasing their level of activity.  Three individuals will receive the award prior to the start of the walk.

Those looking to start a walk team still have time to register. To register as a team or individual for the Hartford Heart Walk go to www.hartfordheartwalk.org. To nominate someone for the Lifestyle Change Award, please call Alicia Young at the American Heart Association at (203) 303-3326.
