Culminating with the Heart Ball in April, the campaign seeks to improve health outcomes by focusing on CPR as a cornerstone of the chain of survival.
The American Heart Association (AHA), the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, has named Vishal Tulsian as Chair of the Heart of Greater Washington campaign.
Tulsian is currently the Senior Vice President of Operations for SAIC’s state/local, healthcare, and federal financial customers.
He has been at SAIC since 2013 and brings more than 20 years of experience in management and successful delivery of information technology services.
The Heart of Greater Washington campaign unites supporters year-round with a shared purpose to raise critical awareness, action, and funds to bring the mission of the AHA to life. In his role as Chair, Tulsian leads the AHA’s efforts driving equitable health for every member of the Greater Washington Region, with a particular focus on increasing awareness of lifesaving CPR skills, which are foundational to the AHA’s work.
“I am passionate about helping people and excited about this campaign’s focus on CPR and empowering people to save lives,” said Tulsian. “According to the AHA, about 90% of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. In DC, that number tracks even higher. Because CPR can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival, educating as many people as possible on how to respond to these incidents is critical to improving outcomes.”
The Heart of Greater Washington campaign culminates in the 2022 Greater Washington Region Heart Ball, to be held live in person on April 23 at The Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC. A celebration of the life, the event brings together the region’s most prominent corporate, health care, and community leaders. Guests will be treated to an evening of exclusive live and silent auctions, dinner, dancing, special guests, and tributes to survivors and physicians. The official after-party, Heart After Dark, returns to keep the festivities going until 1 a.m.
“I invite everyone to join us for the Heart Ball and to take opportunities throughout the year to give and advance the AHA’s work around the world and in our community,” said Tulsian. “The impact one makes by being a part of this exceptional campaign will be felt well beyond the incredible evening we have planned.”
Plans are evolving and this event will be held in accordance with CDC and local health guidance. For more information, visit dcheartball.com.
“For nearly 100 years, the American Heart Association has been fighting heart disease and stroke, and helping families and communities thrive,” said Soula Antoniou, Executive Director of the AHA, Greater Washington Region. “And we are able to do so because of volunteer leaders like Vishal and sponsors who lead the charge and bring our campaigns and events to life.”
The dollars raised by the Heart of Greater Washington campaign fund the mission of the American Heart Association to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives while supporting priority issues. Local sponsors of the Heart Ball include: SAIC, the Bender Foundation, the Kurt Rieschick Memorial Fund, American College of Cardiology, Deloitte, Giant Foods, KPMG, Linda Gooden and Laird Lott, MedStar Health, Mercedes-Benz of Arlington, Sheehy Auto Stores, and Veritas.
