The American Heart Association in Maine is entering its 2026-27 fiscal year with dedicated volunteers who will lead the organization’s local team in pursuit of its mission, to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. The Association thanks members who have completed their board terms as it announces its president and chair, along with welcoming new members to its board of directors.
Joan Smith, tax principal, Baker Newman Noyes, has stepped up in her role as the Association’s Maine Board Chair. Aline Iskandar, MD, cardiologist, Northern Light Mercy Hospital, is continuing her leadership role as the Association’s Board President.
The newest members of the Association’s Board of Directors are: Lindsay Harris, vice president, Maine Community Bank, and Smita Sonti, MD, physician, Martin’s Point.
The Association thanks continuing board members as follows: Dave Abel, president & general manager, Channel 8 WMTW & WPXT-Maine’s CW, Portland; Mindy Beyer, program manager, Cardiovascular Services, MaineHealth; Kevan Deckelmann, partner, Dentons Law Firm; Ashley Deeb, marketing manager, Mainely Tubs; Nicole Hardy, senior manager of customer experience and merchandising, Mainely Tubs; Eric Jermyn, president, Cross Insurance; Alison Nason, director of marketing and communications, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine; Sarah Lewis, director, Maine Access Immigrant Network; Kaila McCracken, vice president of business intelligence and analysis, MEMIC; Thomas Miller, DO, pediatric cardiologist, MaineHealth; and Bill Whitmore, Vice President, Business Transformation, MaineHealth.
“As a volunteer-based organization, the American Heart Association relies on the dedication of people who are committed to our mission, and whose passion helps drive our success,” said Lindsay Colle, the Association’s vice president for development, Northern New England. “Board members work alongside the Association’s Maine staff to advance its mission and fundraising priorities. The board oversees opportunities for investment in Maine to improve health and well-being and will build on existing efforts around health care access and quality, addressing issues of nutrition and food security, blood pressure control, CPR awareness and more.”
