LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The American Heart Association, a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives, will host its annual Long Island Heart Walk on September 22, 2024, at Jones Beach Field 5, Wantagh, N.Y. The event opens at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m.
Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, remains the leading cause of death on Long Island. For 100 years, the American Heart Association has been at the forefront of the fight against heart disease and stroke, working to promote healthier lives and communities.
This year’s Heart Walk will be emceed by Kristine Johnson, Emmy-nominated news anchor for CBS New York. The event will also feature the “Stocking Healthy Pantries” initiative, sponsored by Webster Bank in collaboration with Pronto of Long Island. Heart Walk participants are encouraged to bring healthy food items, which will be collected on-site by Pronto.
“This event brings our community together in a powerful way, reminding us of the importance of heart health while also supporting families in need,” said Tara Lee Schneider, executive director of the American Heart Association on Long Island. “With our community allies, we’re taking bold steps to make a lasting difference in our fight against heart disease and stroke.”
