Samantha Stover, RN, BSN, heart health program coordinator at WellSpan Health in York, Pennsylvania, was recently honored by the American Heart Association with its Distinguished Achievement Volunteer Award. The award is given to outstanding volunteers who have made significant contributions to the success of the Association’s Eastern States Region.
Stover has been volunteering with the American Heart Association for several years, leading fundraising campaigns and championing community initiatives across multiple counties in southcentral Pennsylvania. Most recently, Stover served as chairwoman for the 2024 York Go Red for Women Luncheon, helping to raise more than $17,000 for the Association. She also serves on the executive leadership team for the York Heart Walk and has led efforts within WellSpan Health to support the campaign through fundraising and team building.
Over the past two years, Stover helped WellSpan Health and the Association launch a series of self-measured blood pressure management programs at local libraries. The program provides participating libraries with home blood pressure monitors to have on site and to loan to patrons and is now available at six libraries across Adams, Lancaster, Lebanon, Franklin and York counties. She also coordinated the scheduling of blood pressure screening events at the libraries.
“We can always count on Sam to be there right alongside us in the community, whether it’s providing blood pressure screenings or organizing Hands-Only CPR demonstrations at York Revolution baseball games,” said Tamara Ramer, community impact director at the American Heart Association. “We are grateful for her leadership and the support of WellSpan Health as we all work toward the goal of improving the heart health of everyone in our community.”
For more than 100 years, the American Heart Association has driven change by removing barriers to health, investing in groundbreaking research, educating health care professionals and patients, and advocating for healthy policies. In south central Pennsylvania, the Association is specifically focused on improving nutrition security, reducing uncontrolled hypertension and building our Nation of Lifesavers™ by providing more schools and community organizations with the tools they need to learn Hands-Only CPR.
