Kick Off American Heart Month By Wearing Red Feb 1!

Morgan Jones, of Londonderry, NH, thought she was the picture of health when she collapsed one evening while out with her daughter. Heart disease is the No.1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined, and Morgan had a complete heart block. She underwent immediate surgery to install a pacemaker and now has a second chance at life thanks to medical advancements and research. The American Heart Association is asking everyone in the Granite State to ‘wear red and give’ to support Go Red for Women on National Wear Red Day: Friday, February 1, 2019.
Heart disease and stroke claim the lives of 1 in 3 women – a third of our mothers, sisters and friends. Someone you know and love may be affected – at any age. It’s time to change this fact.
That’s why the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement, nationally sponsored by CVS Health, encourages you to show your support by wearing red and giving on Friday, February 1 to help raise awareness and save lives from heart disease. Here’s how you can join us in support of women’s health:

  • Wear red to raise awareness about heart disease – the leading cause of death in women.
  • Make a donation to support the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association at org or at your local CVS Pharmacy, February 3- 23.
  • Join the conversation by using #WearRed, #WearRedAndGive or #GoRedNH on social media.

While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes, cardiovascular diseases continue to be a woman’s greatest health threat. To treat, beat and prevent heart disease and stroke, women should understand family health history, know their five key personal health numbers to help determine risk and make healthy behavior changes like moving more, eating smart and managing blood pressure.
“Research saved my life,” Morgan said, “I am so thankful to be here today and would like to encourage everyone to wear red on February 1st to show support for all of the women in your life.”
For 15 years, Go Red for Women has provided a platform for women to come together, raise awareness, fund lifesaving research, advocate for change and improve the lives of all women everywhere. Learn more at GoRedForWomen.Org
