The American Heart Association announced today that Wendy Holmes, Private Wealth Advisor at UBS, will serve as Chair of the year-round Go Red for Women movement in New York City for 2019-2020.
Go Red for Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease and provides women with resources to take action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion, and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.
“I am honored to be chairing this year’s NYC Go Red for Women movement. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, yet 80% of all incidences are preventable by adopting a healthy lifestyle,” Holmes said. “I am passionate about Go Red for Women because it not only teaches women how they can reduce their risk, but also empowers them to take action to improve their well-being. As the Executive Chair of the 2019-2020 Go Red for Women campaign in New York City, I am committed to ensuring ALL women across our city have the opportunity to be healthy.”
As chair of the Go Red for Women movement in New York City, Ms. Holmes will champion the issue of women and heart disease and will work to raise funds and awareness while elevating the Go Red for Women mission within the community. The American Heart Association uses all revenues from local and National Go Red for Women activities to support research, education, and community programs to benefit women.
These funds help women by offering educational programs, advancing women’s understanding about their risk for heart disease, and providing tools and motivation to help women reduce their risk to protect their health.
Based on American Heart Association research, a woman who Goes Red:
- follows an exercise routine
- eats healthier diet
- visits her doctor for important tests
- and influences others by talking about heart health.
“One in three women die of heart disease and stroke each year, that’s approximately one woman every minute! The American Heart Association encourages all women to take control of their own health and join the Go Red for Women movement to advocate for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health,” said Jaimie Racanelli, Vice President, American Heart Association in New York City. “We are so pleased that Wendy will join together shoulder to shoulder with other New York City executives and corporations to help us improve the health of all New York City women.”
