Community leader to chair American Heart Association’s initiative to improve women’s heart health
Providence, Rhode Island, August 15, 2024 – The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization devoted to a world of healthier lives for all, announces Kathryn M. Rattigan, Partner at Robinson+Cole, as a chair for the 2025 Southern New England Go Red for Women Luncheon. The event will be held on April 3, 2025, at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
Go Red for Women is a worldwide initiative of the American Heart Association designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally, and globally. Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. Cardiovascular disease continues to be a woman’s greatest health threat, taking the life of one in every three women.
“As a mother of two, a lawyer, a daughter, a sister, a wife and a friend, I often struggle to heed my own advice; take care of yourself,” shared Rattigan. “Go Red empowers me to do just that. By knowing my risk factors, knowing my numbers, regularly exercising, (trying) to eat healthy foods and most importantly, listening to my body, I can take care of myself so that I can in turn take care of others.”
At the Go Red for Women Luncheon the organization will celebrate the American Heart Association’s centennial year, which recognizes the 100 years of funded research that’s led to significant medical advancements in cardiovascular research.
“The American Heart Association will continue to fuel science and innovation, fund lifesaving research, stand for the rights of patients and caregivers, work with communities, and transcend the way we live, work and play,” said Michelle Clark, Executive Director of the American Heart Association’s Southern New England Market. “We are truly honored to have Kathryn at the helm of this relentless pursuit to help spread awareness, education and raise funds towards our mission.”
Rattigan is known for her work advising clients on data privacy and cybersecurity, and compliance with related state and federal laws. She represents clients across all industries, such as manufacturing, insurance, health care, education, energy, and construction. Kathryn received her JD from Roger Williams University and has received numerous accolades for her work in both the legal field and in the community.
“I support Go Red for Women because I care about my and other women’s heart health so that we can share our hearts with others in our lives,” said Rattigan.
The association is raising awareness to Go Red for health, to Go Red for life, to Go Red for good and to Go Red for Women. Together the celebration will recognize survivors in our community who have been directly impacted by the American Heart Association’s bold investments and research over the last century.
Returning for a third year is the Woman of Impact initiative. Women are nominated by their peers to participate. The nominees will recruit champions from their networks to form a fundraising team and have a direct impact on women’s health and the Go Red for Women vision of creating a passionate community dedicated to addressing health issues unique to women. The nominee whose team makes the largest impact in each market will be named the local Woman of Impact Award Winner.
This year’s Go Red for Women movement and its local achievements will be celebrated on April 3, 2025, at the 2025 Southern New England Luncheon, sponsored locally by CVS Health, Robinson+Cole, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Lifespan Health System, KPMG, Beacon Mutual, iHeart Radio and NBC 10 WJAR.
