Jim Murphy Brings Extensive Business and Community Expertise to Lead the AHA’s Efforts in Delaware
WILMINGTON, Sept. 11, 2024 — The American Heart Association (AHA), the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Murphy as the new Executive Director for Delaware, effective September 9. Murphy, with his extensive experience in business development and community engagement, is poised to drive the AHA’s mission forward in the state.
Murphy joins the AHA following a successful career at Experian, Data Axle, and Preferred Communications specializing in enterprise sales and account management. His career is marked by a distinguished tenure as Executive Vice President of the Non-Profit Sector, MBNA America Bank, N.A, where he led groundbreaking initiatives in product development, strategic sales, and partner management. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of South Carolina, equipping him with the strategic insight and leadership skills essential for his new role. Before his business career, Murphy served as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, directing the Intelligence section for the elite 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company and managing security operations in the Republic of Panama. His honorable discharge as a Captain came with recognition for exceptional service to the United States.
As Executive Director, Murphy will spearhead the AHA’s efforts to be a relentless force for longer, healthier lives, overseeing a broad portfolio of initiatives aimed at enhancing heart and brain health. His role encompasses advocating for policy improvements, expanding access to healthcare and nutritious food, advancing research funding, and fostering community engagement. Murphy will also focus on revenue development, volunteer recruitment, and strategic partnerships to address health disparities.
